Outside of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Lollapalooza weekend, and all of my birthdays pre-age 22…. I think Fourth of July has become my favorite holiday!
Every year a giant group of my friends heads to Grand Rapids, MI for a long weekend to stay at what we like to call “Hasse Hotel”. My sweet friend Katie Hasse’s parents live on the Thornapple River and graciously host us every year for the fourth. It’s pretty much Disneyland for twenty-somethings.
Here are some pics from the weekend!
After our annual float trip in Big Rapids Friday afternoon, we checked into our home for the weekend. The evening consisted of night-boating, fireworks, hot-tubbing, and long convos on the deck.
Saturday was a little overcast but we made the most of it and kinda chilled during the day. That night after grilling out, we hauled the ping-pong table out to the patio for a Guys vs. Gals flip-cup tournament. Good times!
Saturday night after the girls team dominated the tournament, Katie’s dad- the infamous Art Hasse- put on the traditional fireworks show for us. In an effort to creatively cheer him on this year, we started chanting: “Who let the dogs out?!… ART. ART. ART. ART. ARTTTT!” Now, I don’t think Art’s a fan of the Baja Men, but we all found it quite entertaining.
Sunday, we had flawless weather and certainly made the most of it!
I love that I have this awesome tradition with my Chicago friends… it’s great to have something so special to look forward to each summer. This particular trip always manages to restore us, de-stress us, and mostly just remind us of what great blessings we have in each other!
